Following the release of Ratt’s limited edition box set, ‘The Atlantic Years,’ two months ago, Stephen Pearcy recently joined Spin to reveal the albums that he couldn’t live without. He added Ratt’s 1983 self-titled EP to the list and explained his reason:
“What can I say? Not just because it’s my first offering of a mini album/record, it’s a brutal introduction. I’d put that music up against any band when we were making a name on the Sunset Strip – and did.”
Around the time the record debuted, Pearcy’s band took the stage at the Sunset Strip clubs like the Whiskey A Go Go and The Roxy, which also hosted bands like Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, Dokken, and Great White. So, commenting on their first official record’s effect on the band’s breakthrough, the singer said:
“You see the vagabond-fashionista metal-pirate guys, and before we played a note, it was, ‘WTF is going on here.’ ‘U Got It,’ ‘Tell the World,’ ‘Sweet Cheater,’ ‘Back for More,’ even though most of the songs I wrote in the late ’70s it was perfect for the time circa the metal invasion Sunset Strip 1983. We conquered!”
While the possibility of a Ratt reunion in the future is still unclear due to the band members’ current careers and relationships, Pearcy keeps revisiting the band’s work through new releases.
In June, the vocalist announced that, in addition to the newly-issued box set, a music collection with never-heard-before Ratt songs would come out soon. Talking about the record’s content with 95.5 KLOS’ ‘New & Approved,’ he added:
“It’s songs from my career — 1977 to present day. And it’s gonna be insane because I’m unleashing some songs — the last song Warren [DeMartini] and I wrote; the last song Robbin [Crosby] and I wrote years ago, some live Ratt that nobody’s heard. I have some songs going on there that’ll blow minds. And it’s a special thing. It’s called ‘Legacy.'”
Stephen Pearcy also has a few solo materials on the horizon. While working on new records, he will go out on his 1980s Sunset Strip Experience Tour and kick off a Las Vegas residency in 2024.
