Journey singer Arnel Pineda has addressed speculation about his future with the band in a new post shared on Instagram.
The post reflects on the band’s recent show in Hawaii. It includes a message that appears to hint at his continued involvement with Journey. The message comes just days after guest singer Hugo Valenti — a Steve Perry lookalike and soundalike — performed a few songs with the band, sparking rumors that Pineda might be stepping down.
“On behalf of Journey and our entire crew, a big thank you or allow me to say Mahalo Nui Loa Hawaii for such a very warm and generous hospitality,” Pineda said.
“Maybe this is not the last,” he continued. “We are grateful forever. A hui hou Hawaii.”
The remarks suggest Pineda may remain with Journey for now, despite earlier comments in which he seemed open to stepping back from the band following the guest performance. Further updates on his status with the group may follow.
The Hawaii show comes amid a broader stretch of the Final Frontier Tour that has kept fans guessing about the band’s vocal lineup. Journey’s stop in Japan just days earlier set off the initial wave of speculation surrounding Pineda’s role in the group.
On August 29, keyboardist Jonathan Cain called Hugo Valenti onstage during Journey’s set at the first-ever Greatest Rock event in Fukuoka. Valenti sang “Faithfully” alongside the band, nearly three decades after briefly being in contention for Journey’s lead vocal spot. Two days later, Journey brought Valenti back for a second appearance in Tokyo. He performed “Faithfully” once again and added the 1981 deep cut “Keep on Runnin'” to his set.
Pineda led most of the 20-song performance in Fukuoka himself. Valenti’s appearance amounted to a brief cameo rather than a wholesale change in the lineup. Still, the moment was enough to fuel talk that Pineda’s time with Journey could be winding down — a narrative he has since pushed back on.
Following Valenti’s second appearance in Tokyo, Pineda directly addressed the rumors. He stated that reports of him rejoining or leaving Journey were “simply not true.” His latest Instagram message from Hawaii, with its warm tone and forward-looking language, appears to reinforce that stance. It suggests his commitment to the band remains intact even as guest performances continue to draw attention on tour.
