Staind frontman Aaron Lewis recently spoke about his responsibility as an American citizen and the importance of preserving the country for future generations. The conversation centered around his new solo album, Give My Country Back, and his decision to incorporate political themes into his recent music.

Lewis spoke at length about what he sees as a generational duty to protect and improve the United States, emphasizing personal responsibility and civic stewardship.

“Because it’s my responsibility at my age to now be the steward of this country, just like everybody else my age,” Lewis said. “If you’re in your 50s, guess what? It’s now our responsibility to step up and make sure that this country is handed to our children and our grandchildren in a condition that’s better than the way that we found it. And that’s how I was raised. That’s how I was brought up.”

He went on to reflect on his experiences traveling the world and what they reinforced about his appreciation for the United States.

“You always leave things better than you find them. And this is our responsibility as citizens of the United States of America,” he continued. “We have the most amazing country because the scales are tipped in our favor and not in the government’s favor. And I’ve been lucky enough to travel all over the world and see what it’s like everywhere else, and I always kiss the ground when I get home.”

Lewis also expressed concern over what he described as decades of gradual cultural and societal change, particularly in education.

“I’ve been alive to see how much destruction has taken place in 30 years, just slow enough so that we don’t quite pick up on it,” he said. “Through 30 to 40 years of slow indoctrination of our children, where we send them off to school and they come back a different person than we sent them off to. And we entrust these people to instill the same moral values and the same ethic into our children that we’re trying to instill in them ourselves.”

He concluded with a stark warning about the broader implications, extending beyond the United States.

“It’s just so unbelievably blatant at this point. If you can’t see it, you’re not looking,” Lewis said. “And how much destruction has taken place literally in the last 30 or 40 years compared to the 250 years of this country, or the history of man in general, how close we are to destroying everything. And not just the United States — the civilization, the world.”

The interview arrives at a pivotal moment in Lewis’s solo career, as he prepares to release the album that gives voice to exactly these convictions. Give My Country Back is the most direct musical expression yet of the political and patriotic themes he has been building toward throughout his time as a solo artist.

The album is scheduled for release on July 17, 2026, through Big Machine Label Group. It features 10 tracks and is firmly rooted in the country genre. This stylistic choice underscores Lewis’s ongoing commitment to his solo career outside of Staind.

Lewis has been actively promoting the project in the weeks leading up to its release. He announced the album publicly and directed fans to pre-order the record. Official merchandise, including a signed CD and a digital album, has also been made available, signaling a full commercial rollout behind the release.

While Lewis built his name as the frontman of the hard rock band Staind, his solo work has taken a markedly different direction. He has carved out a distinct identity in the country music space over the course of several solo albums, releasing music through major country-focused labels and cultivating a fanbase that extends well beyond his rock origins.

Give My Country Back stands as the clearest synthesis of his artistic and political identity to date. The album’s title reflects the urgency he expressed throughout the interview — a belief that the country is at a crossroads and that his generation bears the responsibility of steering it back on course.
