‘I Lied, Sue Me’: George Lynch Changed His Mind About Lynch Mob Farewell

4 Min Read

George Lynch recently addressed why Lynch Mob continues to tour despite announcing a farewell tour earlier this year. He spoke in an interview with Rock ‘N’ Blues Experience.

The guitarist explained his decision to initially end the band and why those plans changed.

“So we decided, or I decided, I think earlier this year, if I’m not mistaken, that this was the 35th anniversary, I believe, of the band, so maybe let’s go out with a nice bookend and put out a good record and call it a day,” Lynch said. “And we called it ‘The Final Ride’ — the tour was called ‘The Final Ride’. And so I did that and sort of — not fired the band; we just all agreed to do this. So everybody went their separate ways.”

Lynch revealed that his agent convinced him to continue after the farewell announcement generated significant interest.

“And there was some momentum and some interest because of that announcement. So all of a sudden my agent started getting all this work opportunity. He talked me, as agents do, talked me out of quitting Lynch Mob touring. He said, ‘Well, just add a few more shows.’ Well, that’s parlayed into, we just kept it going. So here we are. We’re still touring, we’re still putting out records. It’s a different band than it was last year, but… Brian Tichy’s back in the band. Andrew Freeman, Jaron Gulino and myself. It’s a great band. And why not?” he explained.

When addressing fan reactions to the reversal, Lynch was candid about his change of heart.

“So, people are, like, ‘Well, you said you were retiring Lynch Mob.’ I go, ‘Well, I lied. I changed my mind. I’m sorry. Sue me. I’ll see you in court.’ I mean, what do you want me to tell you?” Lynch said. “So that’s what it is. I make silly decisions — off-the-cuff decisions — sometimes that aren’t well thought out. Here we are.”

Lynch’s decision to continue performing marks a significant shift from the band’s original farewell plans.

Blabbermouth reported that Lynch Mob’s farewell tour “The Final Ride” officially ran from February 2024 through March 2025, celebrating 35 years of the band. The final date was March 22, 2025, at the Medina Entertainment Center in Minnesota.

Following the farewell tour’s conclusion, Lynch has been performing with a revamped lineup under the name George Lynch & The Mob. Eddie Trunk noted that the current touring configuration features Andrew Freeman from Last in Line on vocals, Brian Tichy from Whitesnake and Ozzy Osbourne on drums, and Jaron Gulino, formerly of Lynch Mob, on bass, alongside George Lynch on guitar.

The band’s evolution continues with new music on the horizon. Metal Planet Music revealed that Lynch Mob announced their final studio album, “Dancing with the Devil,” set for release on November 28, 2025, via Frontiers Music SRL.

This flexible approach to performances reflects Lynch’s current musical direction. It allows him to work with various musicians while maintaining the Lynch Mob legacy. The guitarist’s candid admission about changing his mind demonstrates a pragmatic approach to his career, prioritizing ongoing creative opportunities over rigid retirement plans.
