Former Arch Enemy vocalist Alissa White-Gluz recently opened up about her departure from the band and her new musical direction with Blue Medusa. She shared her thoughts in an interview with Metal Injection.

The discussion centered around whether White-Gluz felt creatively restricted during her time with Arch Enemy. When asked about feeling held back and having more to express, she provided insight into her artistic evolution.

“I mean, I think that, like, I love everything that I did in Arch Enemy. I think it’s awesome. I’m very proud of it,” White-Gluz said. “And I think that, you know, like fans, fans have like a very keen ear and a very keen eye. I think that they, for a long time, had been expecting me to express myself more like how I’m doing now with Blue Medusa.”

She explained the fundamental difference between her role in Arch Enemy and her complete artistic vision.

“But Arch Enemy is an established act with a very clear formula. That’s different than who I am as a complete artist, you know?” she continued. “So, I mean, I think it’s very, like, fans, obviously, who have been following me for a long time know fully what I’m capable of. And if you haven’t followed me for a long time, once you hear ‘Checkmate,’ I think that’ll be very clear.”

White-Gluz emphasized the importance of artistic authenticity throughout different life phases.

“So I think that, you know, as you grow up, you go through different chapters in your life, it’s important to honor who you are in every single chapter, you know?” she said. “And nobody lives forever, you know? Nobody gets to do it again. So you have to make sure that you’re doing what you need to do to be your authentic self, because we only get one shot.”

However, it’s important to note that these statements about White-Gluz’s departure from Arch Enemy and the formation of Blue Medusa could not be independently verified through current reliable metal music sources.

White-Gluz has been the lead vocalist of Arch Enemy since 2014. She joined after Angela Gossow stepped down from the position. During her tenure with the Swedish melodic death metal band, she has been part of several successful album releases that have solidified her place in the metal community.

Her time with Arch Enemy has been marked by significant musical achievements. These include the albums War Eternal (2014), Will to Power (2017), Deceivers (2022), and most recently Blood Dynasty (2025). These releases have showcased her powerful vocal abilities and helped maintain Arch Enemy’s position as one of the leading acts in melodic death metal.

The band’s established formula that White-Gluz references in her interview has indeed been a defining characteristic of Arch Enemy’s sound for years. The band is known for their aggressive yet melodic approach to death metal. They have maintained a consistent musical direction that has earned them a dedicated global fanbase.

The interview suggests a new chapter in White-Gluz’s career with Blue Medusa and mentions a debut single called “Checkmate.” However, no current reliable sources from major metal publications have confirmed these developments. The metal community will undoubtedly be watching closely for any official announcements regarding changes to Arch Enemy’s lineup or White-Gluz’s future musical endeavors.
