Hayley Williams recently updated fans on her health and addressed the criticism she received over Paramore’s canceled shows on Discord.

The singer had previously announced she was suffering from a persistent lung infection, which led to Paramore halting their U.S. tour. Now, after laying low for a few weeks, Williams shared one of her first updates regarding her health on August 28, saying:

“We’ve been off the road for a couple of weeks now, mainly in Los Angeles. Thankfully got some downtime but we put some work in too. It felt good to get back into a studio. More of that once we get home to Nashville. I can hardly believe I don’t cough all day and night anymore. My stomach is still f*cked from 10 kinds of medication. I’m just happy to be resting more.”

Then, the frontwoman shared what she’d been up to during her rest and why she decided to take a break from social media:

“When I was feeling my worst, I couldn’t do much but just sleep and lay around I watched all of ‘Yellowjackets,’ 3 or 4 docs, ‘They Cloned Tyrone,’ ‘A Good Person,’ [never cried so much or stared blankly across my living room longer after a movie was over]… but mostly, I just scrolled on my phone, to a degree that has been, to put it nicely, disgusting.”

After sharing she’d taken a break from the internet due to the ‘disgusting’ response to the canceled shows, Williams continued by signaling that Paramore was, indeed, determined to start anew with different projects:

“Now that the bulk of our touring for the year is over, I’m hoping to dive head first into creating some better routines. Zac and Taylor and I also just want to get back to making things. We’ve been craving that for a while now. Not only the creative process but they layer[s] of insulation that can come with the creative process.”

She finished off her words by wishing to ‘find balance’ between her personal life and social media:

“For me, when we get into this mode, it always feels nice to disappear in a way… Maybe this time, I will be able to find balance between the disappearing and yet not completely shutting out the world. But probably not. Regardless of a social media [and] internet sabbatical; there’s still plenty of opportunity for us to feel extremely perceived and of course, much to my chagrin, misunderstood.”

Williams had previously received backlash due to her stance against Tennesse’s anti-trans legislation, stating she wouldn’t side with ‘unfathomably harmful’ laws against the LGBTQ+ community.

Then, she received backlash once again after Paramore canceled shows at the last minute, though the singer’s team made it clear that it wasn’t due to the band’s own wishes but reasons regarding Williams’ health.
