Hayley Williams recently spoke up against two anti-LGBTQ+ bills and their possible passing in her home state, Tennessee, through an Instagram story. Paramore rocker condemned the bills, calling them ‘unfathomably harmful’ to the LGBTQ+ communities.
The bills reportedly criminalized drag performance in Tennessee and banned gender-affirming healthcare for trans youth. Hayley, who moved to Tennessee when she was 13, harshly criticized the two bills and firmly stated that she stood by the LGBTQ+ community in this battle against the authorities.
The propositions, backed by Republican lawmakers, are currently headed toward Governor Bill Lee’s desk, as he will be the final decision maker. Williams, who’s known to be an avid advocate for LGBTQ+ communities, voiced her condemnation of these ‘unfathomably harmful’ two bills and called out pro-LGBTQ+ organizations into action to stand together.
Paramore icon’s statements regarding the ‘harmful’ bills:
“Drag is not a crime. Gender-affirming health care for all, including our youth, is a necessity. Once again, our state has passed two regressive and unfathomably harmful bills. Solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ family and local LGBTQIA+ organizations in this fight, not only for inclusion for our friends & family in the queer community but for radical acceptance and empowerment for each of them.”
Throughout her career as the frontwoman of Paramore, Hayley never backed away from vocalizing her thoughts and political beliefs. So, she firmly spoke about the two ‘unfathomably harmful’ bills supported by Republican politicians and called out several pro-LGBTQ+ organizations into action.
