Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante has announced that he injured his right hand and will be sitting out a number of upcoming shows.

Benante shared the news directly with fans. He explained the extent of the injury and introduced the drummer who will be filling in during his absence.

“An Ouch post: I wanted to let everyone know that I unfortunately injured my right hand and, following my doctor’s orders, I’ll be sitting out a handful of shows from June 20 through July 4 to give it the proper time to heal,” Benante said.

He also expressed gratitude toward his temporary replacement and reassured fans about his recovery.

“I’m incredibly grateful that Darby Todd will be stepping in behind the kit for these dates and helping keep the shows rolling while I recover,” he continued. “I’m already focused on getting healthy and look forward to being back on the road soon. Thank you all for the support and understanding.”

Darby Todd will serve as Benante’s replacement for Anthrax’s shows between June 20 and July 4. Benante is expected to return to the road once he has fully recovered.

The injury carries added weight given how much ground Benante is currently covering as a live performer. Beyond his role with Anthrax, he has been serving as the drummer for Pantera’s ongoing touring lineup. The hand injury therefore affects his live duties with both bands simultaneously.

Benante stepped into the Pantera role as part of the band’s reunion, joining surviving members Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown. His involvement has been central to keeping Pantera’s live presence intact, making his recovery a matter of significance beyond just the Anthrax tour dates.

Todd is a British drummer with an extensive background in heavy rock and metal. He has previously worked with Devin Townsend, The Darkness, and Robben Ford, making him a well-regarded figure in the touring world and a capable stand-in for one of metal’s most established drummers.

The affected dates run from June 20 through July 4. Benante is sitting out this stretch strictly on doctor’s orders and has signaled his intention to return to the road as soon as he is cleared to do so.
