Boston frontman Tommy DeCarlo has passed away at the age of 60 after battling brain cancer. A statement was shared on The Tommy DeCarlo Facebook page.

DeCarlo’s family released an emotional statement announcing his passing. They requested privacy during this difficult time.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026,” the family said. “After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end.”

The family continued their message by asking for respect and privacy as they process their loss.

“During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another,” they continued. “Rest in peace, Dad.”

DeCarlo’s death marks the end of an extraordinary musical journey. This journey began as a devoted fan and evolved into becoming the voice of one of rock’s most beloved bands.

DeCarlo was an unlikely figure who transitioned from being a devoted Boston fan to becoming the band’s lead vocalist. He ultimately replaced original singer Brad Delp. Rock History Music reported that DeCarlo initially shared vocal duties with other band members during his early tours with Boston. He eventually became the sole major lead singer.

His contributions to Boston’s legacy were significant. He appeared on the band’s 2013 album Life, Love, and Hope, where he performed the title track and “The Way You Look Tonight.” He also shared vocals on other songs. The band continued touring throughout the 2010s. This included special shows celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2016.

Beyond his work with Boston, DeCarlo formed his own musical group with his son, Tommy DeCarlo Jr., called To Carlo. This collaboration continued the family’s musical legacy. It demonstrated his commitment to music that extended beyond his role as Boston’s frontman.

DeCarlo’s health challenges began the previous year when he suffered a brain bleed requiring emergency surgery. During the procedure, doctors discovered melanoma tumors on his brain and another on his lung. Although he initially recovered enough to return home, he later experienced another brain bleed as the illness progressed. Friends and family organized a fundraiser in North Carolina to help with his mounting medical expenses.

The date of DeCarlo’s passing carries a poignant and eerie significance. He died on March 9th, the same date that original Boston lead singer Brad Delp died in 2007. This creates a haunting connection between the two vocalists who defined the band’s sound across different eras.
