Wolfgang Van Halen performed with producer Andrew Watt and Tool’s Maynard James Keenan to celebrate Ozzy Osbourne’s induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month. They played ‘Crazy Train’ with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith and Metallica’s Robert Trujillo at the back.
In a new interview with Meltdown from Detroit’s WRIF radio, Wolfgang shared that he was very nervous about performing at Ozzy’s induction event. “But everybody, they made it really easy and it was really comfortable,” he said. “And personally, it was really cool to be able to hang out with Maynard. I’ve been a huge Tool fan my whole life and he’s one of my favorite singers.”
Asked if he met Keenan before the event, the singer added, “No, I hadn’t. And he’s a really great dude. It was a good time.” He then mentioned how he had to hold himself back from fanboying over the Tool vocalist, “It’s business time, so, I had to put away the fan shirt and just kind of be, like, ‘Yes, sir. Hey, how’s it going? Nice to meet you. I’m here to jam with you.’ But yeah, after a while, you just kind of hang out, and it’s a good time.”

Tenacious D’s Jack Black inducted Ozzy Osbourne during the ceremony, praising him as ‘the greatest frontman in the history of rock ‘n’ roll.’ Osbourne accepted the honor sitting on a throne and paid tribute to his late bandmate Randy Rhoads in his speech, saying, “I’ve got to say one thing for a guy by the name of Randy Rhoads. If I hadn’t met Randy Rhoads, I don’t think I’d be sitting here now. Moreover, my wife Sharon. Saved my life. And my grandbabies and my babies. I love them all.”
The Black Sabbath frontman earned a solo Rock Hall induction this year, adding to his earlier induction with Black Sabbath in 2006. Rhoads got a posthumous recognition at the event in 2021.
