Tony Hawk feels sad that Kurt Cobain couldn’t see his grandchild.

Hawk, whose son Riley is married to Kurt’s daughter Frances, shared a Nirvana concert ticket on his Instagram story from October 20, 1991, in Houston, via Louder. He wrote in the caption, “Went straight from an S.U.A.S. [Shut Up And Skate] event at Houston Skatepark to this concert in 1991.”

He went on to say, “It was as transformative as live music can possibly be; we all experienced something rare and powerful that night. The world would never be the same.”

“I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become; meet her caring, devoted husband; and hold our wondrous grandchild,” Hawk then said.

Riley and Frances Bean got married on October 7, 2023, in Los Angeles. Michael Stipe, Frances’ godfather and R.E.M. frontman, officiated.

They had their son, Ronin, on September 17, 2024. Frances announced his birth on Instagram 12 days later. She wrote, “Welcome to the world most beautiful son. We love you more than anything.”

Last week, Tony shared a photo of himself and Ronin on a skateboard together. “What happens when all of your kids can skate on their own and no longer rely on you to give them rides?” he wrote in the caption. “You wait until they have their own kids. Circles (wheels?) of life.”

Kurt died at 27 on April 5, 1994, and Nirvana broke up soon after. The two surviving members, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, recently reunited for two shows. They played at the FireAid wildfire benefit in Los Angeles and at the 50th-anniversary show of ‘Saturday Night Live.’

For the FireAid concert, they were joined by Joan Jett, St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, and Violet Grohl. At SNL, Post Malone filled in for Cobain, marking the first time a male singer has performed with the band since Kurt’s death.
