The surviving members of Nirvana reunited at FireAid, performing four of the band’s classic songs. It was Dave Grohl’s return to the stage after revealing in September that he had fathered a child out of wedlock.
Four different women took turns singing during the FireAid performance. First was St. Vincent, with a performance of ‘Breed.’ Next, Kim Gordon, the frontwoman of Sonic Youth, performed ‘School.’ Joan Jett also took the stage and brought her style to ‘Territorial Pissings,’ a fan-favorite from ‘Nevermind.’
The first three vocalists had all performed with Nirvana at their 2014 Hall of Fame induction, but the last singer was different.
Dave Grohl’s 18-year-old daughter, Violet Grohl, took the mic for the final song. She and Dave sang ‘All Apologies’ together, and it was the only time Dave used the mic during the set, but he didn’t speak to the crowd.
The performance came after the cheating scandals. A month after completing their 2024 North American tour on August 18 in Seattle, Grohl revealed that he had fathered a child outside of his marriage and was working to rebuild trust with his family. After the news, the band canceled their performance at this Soundside Music Festival.
This month, however, the rocker was seen cooking for the people impacted by the LA fires. Fans seemed to have forgiven him after this. “We all make mistakes. That’s life. Regardless, Dave is still the man,” one user wrote.
Another one agreed, “Dave is still an incredible person, who happened to make a mistake. He’s been doing incredible stuff like this for decades.” Someone added, “Still disappointed in him but this is a great start to getting back to Good Guy Dave.”
Foo Fighters’ official website currently shows no tour dates, and the canceled 2025 tour was never officially announced. As a result, the cancellation didn’t attract much attention since no specific plans had been made.
