Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante recently reaffirmed her support for trans rights and bit back at the criticism about her stance on X.
This came after she replied to a tweet from Big Ass Truck declaring “trans rights are human rights” by writing, “I love you, Big Ass Truck. Listening to Big Ass Truck through the PA right now.”
A user commented on her reaction as follows, “Nobody is born in the wrong body, stick to making music.” So, she simply added, “Seat’s taken, Anime Jesus,” mocking both the person’s approach and profile image.
LaPlante is a vocal supporter of trans rights who is often criticized on the matter online. She spoke out about it last September on X, again, noting how some people started fixating on her in ways linked to transphobic narratives.
She explained, “I noticed a big push of that. I never encountered it before, about 5–7 years ago when far-right people decided to start obsessing over trans people for many brain-dead reasons. Transphobia is never objective. If someone tries to insult me about that, I say ‘thanks.’ I’m not insulted.”
The singer also highlighted her admiration for trans women, “I don’t even consider myself to be vocal, as much as (for some reason) people who are obsessed with others’ genitals like to project that onto me. I am just an artist who is very inspired by trans women, always have been. They move the culture. They influence the culture.”
LaPlante is currently set for a tour with Spiritbox, starting in London on February 13. The release of their newest album, ‘Tsunami Sea,’ is to follow the trek on March 7.
