Chris Cornell seemed to have it all, at 51. He had become one of the most well-known faces of rock, a living breathing relic of grunge, and an appreciated composer and a lyricist all around. So, what could’ve been the career highlight of a man who had and lived it all?

Well, Yahoo Entertainment was after this question in 2016, as they interviewed the 51-year-old rocker a year before his unfortunate passing. Their chat mainly felt like a homage to Chris’ entire career, as the host delved into his successful and ‘unsuccessful‘ collaborations, hits, and albums.

So, among all the discussions about success and fame, the interviewer picked his last question to resolve a simple anomaly, asking what Chris felt to be his career highlight despite, perhaps, having tons of memorable collaborations or works.

Cornell, however, didn’t seem to hesitate while answering the question, as he named one of his career highlights as having a rock hero covering a Soundgarden track. The rocker even recalled how honored he was to have the-said singer, who he felt was a combination of ‘God and Jesus,’ sing one of his songs, as he shared his career peaks:

“Johnny Cash doing a song that I wrote [Soundgarden’s ‘Rusty Cage’] is definitely one [a career highlight]. When I finally met him, it was like I was talking to God and Jesus at the same time.”

He then continued by counting another ‘career peak:’

“And the royal premiere of the James Bond film ‘Casino Royale’ with my song [‘You Know My Name’] in the opening title sequence was pretty crazy. But I was pissed off that they had the volume turned way down on the movie because the Queen was going to be there, so when the song started it was too quiet.”

It seemed that Cornell was content with his career highlights, as the rocker didn’t hesitate much to give a clear answer. However, as enjoyable as it appeared to have met Johnny Cash in person, the singer wasn’t as content with the James Bond franchise having his track on Bond’s then-recent movie as Chris felt the soundtracks didn’t do justice to his song.
