Accept guitarist Wolf Hoffmann has opened up about whether the band reached out to estranged original singer Udo Dirkschneider for their upcoming guest-filled re-recording album, in a new interview with Loudersound.
The conversation centered on Accept’s new album, “Teutonic Titans 1976-2026,” a collection of re-recordings featuring various guest musicians. It also addressed whether Dirkschneider was ever considered for the project.
Hoffmann gave a candid response when asked directly: “The elephant in the room: did anybody suggest involving Accept’s estranged original singer Udo Dirkschneider in all of this? And how would you describe your relationship with Udo these days?”
“We contacted him, and of course there was no response,” Hoffmann said.
He went on to reflect more broadly on the state of his relationship with former bandmates who have left Accept over the years.
“The relationship is non-existent, and that’s a sad thing to me,” Hoffmann continued. “And it’s not just Udo. Whoever leaves the band usually is never heard from again. To me, that’s weird. Why can’t we be friends, or at least remain in touch? But I hear it from a lot of other bands. It has a lot to do with bruised egos.”
Hoffmann’s comments shed light on the ongoing distance between Accept and its former frontman as the band moves forward with its new anniversary project.
The rejection puts into perspective just how ambitious “Teutonic Titans 1976-2026” is as a celebration of Accept’s five-decade history. The album marks the band’s 50th anniversary. It features 19 re-recorded songs pulled from across Accept’s catalog, spanning tracks that trace the group’s evolution from its earliest days to the present.
What sets the project apart is its sheer scale of collaboration. Fifty guest musicians appear across the record, turning each re-recorded track into its own distinct lineup. Names attached to the album include Tobias Forge of Ghost, Anthrax’s Frank Bello, Korn’s Ray Luzier, Phil Anselmo of Pantera, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Scorpions members Mikkey Dee and Matthias Jabs, Judas Priest’s Rob Halford and KK Downing, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, and former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson.
The reworked version of “Save Us,” featuring Forge, Bello and Luzier, has already been released as one of the album’s singles. It gives fans an early taste of how these collaborations reshape Accept’s classic material.
“Teutonic Titans 1976-2026” is set for release on September 4, 2026, through Napalm Records.
Hoffmann’s disappointment over Dirkschneider’s silence appears rooted in genuine effort rather than a token gesture. He has indicated that invitations went out to former members beyond just Udo as part of the anniversary celebration. This underscores that the snub was not an isolated case but part of a broader pattern of estrangement Hoffmann finds difficult to reconcile with the band’s milestone year.
