Eddie Van Halen’s Ex-Wife Valerie Bertinelli Says David Lee Roth Didn’t Like Her

Eddie Van Halen’s ex-wife and Wolfgang Van Halen’s mother, Valerie Bertinelli, recently spoke about her past relationship with Van Halen. She stated that even though other members liked her, frontman David Lee Roth didn’t, which was confusing for her.

Valerie married Eddie Van Halen in 1981 and gave birth to their son, the future rockstar, Wolfgang Van Halen, in 1991. The couple had a fast rock and roll life together and weren’t very good influences on each other. Even when Eddie was diagnosed with oral cancer, he didn’t quit his bad habits, which followed up with other health problems later on.

Before the couple split up in 2001 and divorced on December 20, 2007, they were inseparable. Valerie would come to the band’s rehearsals to hang out with the rest of the band members. In a recent interview, she talked about getting along with everyone in Van Halen, but the frontman David Lee Roth didn’t like her.

Bertinelli didn’t give clear reasons why Roth didn’t like her but said that she confronted him with understanding where his dislike came from since she always acted nicely to him as a fan of his work. Unfortunately, nothing came out of that conversation as Bertinelli still doesn’t know the source of Diamond Dave’s behaviors towards her.

Valerie’s statement about DLR is as follows:

“I got along great with Al and with Mike. It was someone else. I don’t know why he didn’t like me, but what are you going to do? I don’t know why he didn’t like me. I mean, I was always nice to him. I honestly don’t know.

One day I’d like to sit down with him and go, ‘Dude, what did I do? Honestly, I’ve always been a fan of yours. I think you’re a brilliant frontman; I think you’re a brilliant songwriter; I love your lyrics. Why don’t you like me? What did I do?'”

The successful actress initially said that her presence within the band somehow triggered Van Halen’s decision to ban women from joining anything related to their music. This wasn’t the first time band members felt uncomfortable with having a girlfriend involved in their music since the history of rock is filled with examples of this situation, such as the Beatles, who didn’t enjoy Yoko Ono’s company.
