Drumeo recently announced the winners of its 2024 class of best drummers. Slipknot’s Eloy Casagrande won in the Metal Drummer of the Year category against Leprous’ Baard Kolstad, Anthrax’s Charlie Benante, Architects’ Dan Searle, and Suicidal Tendencies’ Greyson Nekrutman.
Casagrande later celebrated his win on Instagram. “Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I’m immensely grateful for the awards and for all the recognition,” he wrote in a new post. “But I must say that, regardless the awards, my happiness is playing the drums. It’s what I want to do every day. ‘What is art but the denial of life?'”
The drummer won one of the three categories he was nominated for. He was also competing for Drummer of the Year and Drum Performance of the Year with his first show with Slipknot at Pappy Harriet’s.
When the nominations were announced in December, Casagrande wrote on social media, “This was a big surprise for me. I’m a learner and the only thing I’m sure of is that I’m continually changing and trying to evolve. If you believe in what I do, go to the link in my bio and vote for me in the categories of Drummer of the Year, Performance of the Year and Metal Drummer of the Year.”
Casagrande joined Slipknot in early 2024, replacing Jay Weinberg. He left Sepultura just before the band’s farewell tour rehearsals started. Greyson Nekrutman took over his spot for the trek.
Slipknot is set to get back on stage with their new drummer starting February 28. After finishing their Australian shows in mid-March, the band will move to Europe.
