In a recent interview with Overdrive.ie, Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser opened up about Eloy Casagrande’s sudden exit to join Slipknot. When asked if Casagrande’s decision to leave the band was influenced by Sepultura’s upcoming farewell tour, he responded, “I have no idea, man. You have to ask him. Because we were very surprised by his decision.”

“We were working on [the Sepultura farewell tour] for two years — with him — and three weeks before the first show, he decided to leave out of nowhere. It was really weird,” Kisser continued.

The guitarist also explained how Greyson Nekrutman joined the band after Casagrande’s sudden exit. “And he decided three weeks before the first date that we were working for two years to happen, with his approval and everything — we were discussing setlist and all the effects and everything — but he decided to go at that moment and he left, and [current Sepultura drummer] Greyson [Nekrutman] came up to my mind right away, ’cause we were following him.”

“My son, Yohan, showed me his videos, Derrick [Green, Sepultura singer] saw him playing with Suicidal [Tendencies] in L.A. And he came to my mind right away. And I called him, and 48 hours [later], we were together,” he added.

In December 2023, Casagrande got a call from Slipknot’s manager. The call eventually caused his departure from Sepultura. Two months later, he replaced Jay Weinberg as Slipknot’s drummer for their 25th-anniversary tour, meaning Eloy had to leave Sepultura just before their 40th-anniversary farewell tour rehearsals started.

After Casagrande’s departure, Greyson Nekrutman joined Sepultura. The band announced the change on February 27, 2024, on their social media.

Meanwhile, Sepultura is getting ready for their next tour. The band will kick off the tour on March 11 in Honduras, with stops in Mexico, Chile, and Paraguay, before finishing on March 30 at Brazil’s Lollapalooza.
