Sinéad O’Connor’s estate has commented on Trump’s use of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ in his rallies.

The representatives of the late singer strongly disapprove of Donald Trump’s inclusion of the singer-songwriter’s hit, ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ in his campaign rallies. O’Connor’s estate and her label Chrysalis Records demanded in a statement that Trump cease playing the song immediately. The statement, stating that the late singer ‘would be disgusted’ by the incident, read:

“Throughout her life, it is well known that Sinéad O’Connor lived by a fierce moral code defined by honesty, kindness, fairness and decency towards her fellow human beings. It was with outrage therefore that we learned that Donald Trump has been using her iconic performance of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ at his political rallies. It is no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would have been disgusted, hurt and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone who she herself referred to as a ‘biblical devil.’ As the guardians of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates desist from using her music immediately.”

Variety stated that this weekend, O’Connor’s hit song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ was played at Trump’s rallies in Maryland and North Carolina.

Trump Has Used Many Songs Without Permission

Trump, the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, is seeking reelection despite facing two impeachments and multiple indictments in various states.

O’Connor’s name has been added to the list of musicians who have criticized Trump for using their music at rallies. One of these instances would be Johnny Marr of the Smiths, expressing his disappointment in January when Trump played ‘Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.’

In addition to The Smiths; Aerosmith, the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Guns n’ Roses, Leonard Cohen, Linkin Park, Neil Young, Nickelback, Ozzy Osbourne, Panic! at the Disco, Phil Collins, Prince, Queen, R.E.M., the Rolling Stones, and the White Stripes are among the artists who refuted Trump’s use of their songs on his rallies.
