Breaking Benjamin frontman Ben Burnley paused his own concert for nearly five minutes to address an ongoing feud with a fellow Fallout 4 modder.
During the interruption, Burnley promoted his own Fallout 4 mod. He explained why he was urging fans to download it, tying the request directly to his conflict with another member of the modding community.
“I just made a mod that makes it so that when you’re in first-person, you stay in first-person,” Burnley said. “You see your body in first-person. You go to your workshop area in first-person, and third-person still works. So, I want you to go and download that f*ckin’ mod.”
Burnley then explained the motivation behind the appeal. He revealed that a dispute with another modder had prompted his nightly campaign to boost his own mod’s downloads.
“More importantly, I wanna tell you why I’m doing this,” he continued. “There was a modder — so, there’s like a clique, there was a modder in the community that was really mean to me and bullying me and saying, ‘Oh, you mod is sh*t, you don’t know what you’re f*ckin’ doing,’ so I’m doing this every f*cking night, and blowing his f*ckin’ downloads out of the water. Please help me destroy this f*ckin’ jerk. I’m not even gonna say his name, but he’s a d*ck, and f*ck him.”
Burnley concluded his remarks by calling on fans to support his mod regardless of whether they play the game. He framed the request as a matter of fairness within the modding community.
“Even if you don’t play that game, go download it. It’s on Nexus Mods. And tomorrow, I better see all those downloads going up,” he said. “This is for people who love mods. I’m uploading the update for it. You know, when you post a mod, you’re supposed to be able to grow and learn, and make it better. And right off the bat, this f**kin’ a**hole was sh*tin’ on my mod, and he ain’t lettin’ me update it. So that’s what happened.”
The outburst took place during the band’s September 6 show, days into a North American run that began September 2 in Camden, New Jersey, and is scheduled to end October 24 in Bristow, Virginia.
During the same concert, Burnley described himself as an “amateur modder” who has also worked on Skyrim mods. The Fallout 4 mod at the center of the dispute has been identified as “True First Person.”
The remarks quickly circulated online after being shared on Reddit, drawing attention to the unusual mid-show detour. No further comment from the other modder involved has been reported.
