During a recent conversation with The Arizona Republic, Sammy Hagar expressed understanding and respect for Alex Van Halen’s decision not to participate in a Van Halen reunion.
The frontman shared his perspective on the challenges of orchestrating a reunion without all the original members, giving an ultimatum to Alex Van Halen by saying he can’t wait for him for 20 years. He said:
“Mike and I, 20 years ago, did a reunion. And it’s been 20 years this year. I’m going, I don’t have another 20 years to be waiting on Alex Van Halen, who’s the only guy left.”
After that, Sammy softened his attitude and concluded his speech by saying that he could understand Alex by sending his good wishes to him. He said:
“So he didn’t want to do it? You know, he, I guess, just doesn’t like playing without his brother. Don’t blame him. God bless him.”
Introducing The Tour Lineup

Instead of Alex’s participation, Hagar announced an exciting lineup for the upcoming tour, disclosing:
“So I’m saying, ‘I’m getting Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Jason Bonham, who his dad was Alex’s hero.’ Jason plays just like his dad. So it’s pretty much the music is gonna be served as good as it can be served today.”
A Fusion Of Solo And Van Halen Hits

November 2023 marked the announcement of ‘The Best of All Worlds’ tour, set to begin in July 2024. This tour promises a celebration of Hagar’s solo career alongside a reunion with former Van Halen bandmates. The ensemble, featuring Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, Rai Thistlethwayte, and Jason Bonham, aims to recapture the essence of their previous collaborations.
Reflecting on the past, Hagar reminisced about the Van Halen ’04 tour, expressing excitement about revisiting those moments:
“It’s crazy to think that it’ll be 20 years since Mikey and I played these songs with Van Halen on the ’04 ‘Best of Both Worlds Tour.'”
Hagar’s Take On Van Halen’s Legacy

In a separate talk on the Rock of Nations podcast, Sammy expressed his disappointment with how Van Halen hasn’t honored Eddie Van Halen with a tribute event, suggesting Alex Van Halen should have taken the lead.
The Red Rocker addressed rumors on Instagram about David Lee Roth joining his tour, making it clear that Roth might only appear for a brief performance at best, despite DLR’s wish to participate in the tour.
