Former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar recently discussed his problem with Van Halen’s dynamics and slammed the ‘ugly’ truth behind the lack of a tribute to honor Eddie Van Halen’s life while talking to the Rock of Nations podcast.
Hagar Is Disappointed

The rocker is disappointed because there hasn’t been a tribute event for Eddie. Since Alex is now in charge of Van Halen, it seems like he’s implying that Alex should be the one to organize it.
He said:
“I’m so disappointed how they’ve handled everything, including when I left the band and what they did… The dysfunction in that band; when I was in the band [for] the first 9 years, we got along like freaking brothers and sisters. And we were happy together. One big family.”
Then, Hagar continued by claiming that things had taken a problematic turn when ‘substance and alcohol’ came into play, as he slammed some of the band members he didn’t name, possibly, taking a jab at David Lee Roth. The rocker mentioned:
“Things went wrong [after I’ve left the band]. Drugs and alcohol are a bad thing when it turns ugly. It’s just never been the same…”
The ‘Ugly’ Reality Behind Van Halen’s Lack Of Tribute

He also repeated how disappointed he was that there were no official homages to honor Eddie’s career and life, but also stated that coming up with a tribute show was not his job, so he wouldn’t take action. Hagar pointed out:
“For them not to have done something for Eddie Van Halen, the greatest guitar player in the world, on the planet. Greatest rock musician, I’m telling ya. It’s ugly, but it’s not my job.”
