In the middle of the controversy, Roger Waters found himself explaining his actions yet again. Following uproar regarding his comments about the Israeli government and the stage props in Berlin, the singer turned to Double Down News, where he addressed the accusations thrown his way.
The former Pink Floyd vocalist, who had already talked about this issue on Twitter, decided to explain his outfit choice again and stop what he called ‘fake news.’ In the video shared by DDN, the singer said:
“40 years I’ve been doing – 40 years. Every single year almost between 1980 and now, I’ve been doing bits of that show. Why now? Why suddenly now would people be picking up and going, ‘He’s wearing a replica of a Nazi uniform on stage!’ ‘He’s obviously glorifying the Third Reich and Nazism.’ ‘He’s doing that as part of his general attitude, which is that he hates Jewish people.’ All over, all the press in the Western world, everything; ‘Roger orders anti-sema, glorifying Nazism and wearing a thing.'”
Expressing anger, he continued:
“Beggar’s belief! Don’t get me wrong. I may be shouting, and I may seem powerful or whatever, but I’m still really upset. I can’t believe that they’re trying to do this to me. I mean, clearly, where you can hear in my voice, I’m upset beyond all measure to be called these names. They’re deeply, deeply, deeply insulting, not just to me, but to my family and particularly to my mother and father.”
Alex Skolnick, who openly revealed his disagreement with Waters’ political views, defended the stage show with similar words on Twitter shortly after the news broke out:
“I’m loathe to defend RW these days, but; The fact is this is a segment of Pink Floyd ‘The Wall’ that critiques fascism, works in context, has been performed for decades without incident & the album was co-produced by someone my family might call a ‘nice Jewish boy,’ Bob Ezrin…”
