The update is a small but symbolic change to his bio: Wilson added a set of dates alongside the band’s handle to mark the span of his time as the group’s DJ.

The bio now reads:

“@slipknot 1997-2026.”

The dates trace back to 1997, the year Wilson joined Slipknot, through 2026, following his recent exit from the band. Fans read the tombstone-like format as a quiet, heartfelt tribute to his nearly three decades with the group. No further public statement has been issued at this time.

The bio change did not come out of nowhere. It caps off weeks of turbulence surrounding Wilson’s status in the band. It also fills in the picture of exactly how his time with Slipknot came to an end.

Wilson was informed in late July that he had been permanently removed from the group. The decision stunned even those close to the band. Slipknot made the split official on August 14 by posting a statement on its social media accounts that read, “Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.” The post was quickly deleted from the band’s main account. It then resurfaced on Knotfest’s Instagram.

The issues behind the firing point to tension within Slipknot rather than a mutual or amicable exit. The decision followed mounting frustration with Wilson’s treatment of his bandmates. This suggests the split was the result of behind-the-scenes friction rather than a sudden falling out.

Wilson’s Instagram bio update arrived just weeks after Slipknot’s own statement went up and came down within hours. It’s the closest thing to a personal confirmation Wilson has offered so far. Whether he addresses the split more directly remains to be seen.
