Former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora took to Instagram to send his prayers and wish his dear friend Glenn Hughes a speedy recovery. He shared the heartfelt update in a post on the platform.

The post included a heartwarming video of the two rock legends sharing the stage and performing “Whole Lotta Love” together during a Kings of Chaos show at Agua Caliente earlier in August. Alongside the clip, Sambora wrote a caption expressing his love and support for Hughes.

“Thinking of you, my dear friend, Glenn Hughes,” Sambora wrote. “My prayers and heart is with you. Here’s to a speedy recovery! Love RS.”

There is a close bond between the two names, who have shared the stage on multiple occasions over the years. Sambora’s message comes at a difficult moment for Hughes, whose health struggles have recently come to light.

Earlier this month, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee announced his retirement from touring and live performances. His doctors determined he needs to undergo another open-heart surgery. The 75-year-old rocker revealed that he had been dealing with health issues over the past year. He underwent a series of MRIs, CT scans, and an echocardiogram before his medical team ultimately recommended the procedure.

Hughes made the announcement on Facebook. He explained that he had made the difficult decision to step back from live performances for the foreseeable future as he prioritizes his health. Some of his 2026 touring plans had already been scrapped earlier in the year due to what was initially described as a minor health issue. The more serious news of the impending surgery emerged later.

“This past year, I’ve had health issues,” Hughes shared in his statement, adding that his health is now his “number one priority” as he prepares for the operation.

The Kings of Chaos performance referenced in Sambora’s tribute is one of Hughes’ final stage appearances before his retirement announcement.
