Rod Stewart has been singing and living with a broken nose after an accident, and it was his own decision.
In a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the rocker looked back at the beginning of his career and recalled the day he got his nose broken. When asked whether or not he had been working to make his voice sound ‘raspy,’ the rocker revealed it was the result of the accident. He explained:
“I didn’t… try to make it really raspy. It’s just the way it came out. It’s something to do with my nose and my throat, and it’s just a big accident.”
The singer also revealed recently getting a comment from a doctor about his nose. He continued:
“In fact, you know, I’ve got a broken nose here that I did when I was 19, when I was playing football. And then recently, a doctor said, ‘If we straighten this out and we give you a nice straight nose, you may lose your voice.’ [I told the doctor,] ‘Leave that alone, mate. I’ll do with a bent nose.'”
One Of His Fans Had The Same Accident, But Sued Stewart

As ironic as it sounds, just like the way he was hit by a football on the nose, a fan on his show was also hit by a football, this time by Stewart himself.
As reported by the Daily News of New York ten years ago, the 69-year-old British rocker Rod Stewart faced a lawsuit from an American fan. The fan, Mostafa Kashe, alleges that Stewart broke his nose with a football kicked into the audience during a 2012 concert at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Mostafa Kashe, a 53-year-old electrical engineer from California, seeked $10,000 in compensation for ‘lost wages, attorneys’ fees, and cosmetic repairs to his nasal cavity’ from the singer. A statement by Kashe stated:
“Stewart has significant experience in the sport of soccer and experience in kicking soccer balls, having previously tried out for a professional soccer team in the U.K. and regularly playing in amateur soccer leagues since his youth. Stewart either knew or should have known that his actions could cause injury to unsuspecting patrons of his concerts.”
Stewart is known for kicking signed soccer balls into the crowd at his concerts.
