The Offspring celebrated 1 billion streams with an 8-bit adventure version of the hit song, ‘You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid.’
“1 BILLION STREAMS deserves an 8-bit video, right?” the band wrote in the caption of their Instagram post, along with a video of the song as an 8-bit game.
In the comment section, fans wanted the game version. A person said, “I want to play them all.” Another one added, “Make a video game with all the different album covers and music videos references.”
“Wanna this game in my table right now,” one other fan explained. “JUST DO A GAME OF THAT ALREADY,” another individual also noted.
‘You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid’ achieved massive success in July. The 2008 single surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. The band celebrated this milestone with an Instagram post, writing, “‘You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid’ has joined the SPOTIFY BILLIONS CLUB,” along with three party popper emojis.
‘You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid’ became the first Offspring song to hit the Spotify Billions Club. Later, their 1998 hit ‘The Kids Aren’t Alright’ also earned 1 billion streams on Spotify.
It became the second Offspring song to join Spotify’s Billion Club, after ‘You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid.’ The band celebrated the achievement at San Diego’s Punk in the Park festival, announcing it on stage and receiving congratulations from fans.
‘The Kids Aren’t Alright,’ now over 25 years old, has been one of The Offspring’s top singles. It earned platinum status from the RIAA in September 2021. The song, about the disappointment of a generation, is still often played at sports events by the University of Southern California marching band, where frontman Dexter Holland went to school.
The Offspring released their 11th studio album, ‘Supercharged,’ on October 11. After releasing the record, the band announced their 2025 world tour, Supercharged Worldwide in ’25. The UK and Europe dates will run from September to November, starting in Madrid on September 26 and ending in Glasgow.
The tour will begin in January with Green Day in South Africa and the UAE, then continue in March with five shows in Brazil. In April, they’ll tour Japan with Simple Plan. This year, they’ve headlined major festivals like Hurricane/Southside in Germany and Hellfest in France.
