Primus is searching for a new drummer after the sudden departure of Tim ‘Herb’ Alexander. The band is opening the position to any ‘well-mannered’ drummer.
The band posted the announcement on their social media accounts on Monday. “We are currently taking submissions from all points in the universe for the position of Primus drummer/percussionist. Seeking a well-mannered, affable individual with original sensibility and aesthetic, possessing a desire to open new doors in the creative world,” they wrote.
“Flashy chops are wonderful, but groove, pocket, and the ability to listen, react, and contribute to the musical conversation is a must. Interested parties can submit a resume and a recent video performance to [email protected],” the band added.
After leaving Primus, Alexander explained that he had lost his passion for playing with the band. He said, “A lot of times, you do something you love for a long time, and sometimes the passion turns into a job, and sometimes that job doesn’t feel like it’s your being anymore. Over time, I started realizing that it was affecting my physical life, it was affecting my mental life, and it was affecting my family life, and my heart just wasn’t in it.”
Primus’ search for a new drummer is similar to the Smashing Pumpkins’ recent search for a new touring guitarist. The Pumpkins received over 10,000 submissions, and Kiki Wong was eventually chosen for the job.
Meanwhile, members of Holy Mackerel and Frog Brigade will play drums for Primus during the band’s New Year’s Eve shows at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California, on December 30th and 31st. Tool’s Danny Carey will also perform with Primus at the ‘Tool Live in the Sand’ festival in the Dominican Republic in March.
Carey is expected to join Primus on the ‘Sessanta V2.0’ tour with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. The tour begins in late April.
