Perry Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, has shared behind-the-scenes footage of their studio work together, sparking discussion among Jane’s Addiction fans who have drawn comparisons to Yoko Ono. The video was posted on Instagram following the band’s recent legal disputes.

The studio session took place at the historic Les Paul Studios, where Etty Lau documented their recording process.

“What a privilege to have had the pleasure to record at the Les Paul Studios,” Etty Lau Farrell wrote in her caption. “Did you know that not only did Les Paul invent the electric guitar, he was also the inventor of the multi-track console. The one we were working off of is one of three originals that Les built himself.”

She continued to detail the studio’s rich history and technical capabilities.

“Les Paul, along with his wife Mary Ford, made some of the most quintessential records in that studio on that console,” she explained. “Many greats have had their voices through that system – Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Brian Wilson, Bing Crosby, and other recording artists from Reprise. Frank Sinatra had his office in the building.”

“They even sent my voice through the attic, where a custom-built echo chamber sits, to add reverb and warmth to my voice,” she added. “They can do that now. But the Mamas and Papas, they recorded inside that echo chamber. A beautiful wooden room.”

Jane’s Addiction band members filed a lawsuit against Perry Farrell in 2024 following an on-stage altercation, holding him responsible for the incident. The video appears to show Perry and Etty Lau working together on a collaborative project following the band’s dissolution. This has led some fans to draw parallels between Etty Lau’s involvement and Yoko Ono’s relationship with The Beatles.

The current situation reflects the band’s long history of internal tensions and creative conflicts that have defined their career trajectory. Jane’s Addiction has experienced multiple breakups and reunions since their formation. This makes the latest development part of a familiar pattern for longtime followers.

Wikipedia reported that Jane’s Addiction first formed in Los Angeles in 1985 and quickly became pioneers of the alternative rock movement. The band’s groundbreaking early albums, Nothing’s Shocking (1988) and Ritual de lo Habitual (1990), helped define the early 1990s alternative rock scene. They established the band as influential figures in the music industry.

Perry Farrell’s vision extended beyond just the band’s music. Wikipedia noted that he launched the first Lollapalooza festival in 1991, which he coined as representing the “Alternative Nation.” This festival became a cultural phenomenon that showcased alternative and underground artists to mainstream audiences. It cemented Farrell’s reputation as an innovative force in music.

The band has consistently struggled with internal conflicts throughout their career despite their creative achievements. Ultimate Classic Rock documented that Jane’s Addiction has gone through numerous lineup changes and periods of dissolution. The recent 2024 on-stage altercation was just the latest in a series of dramatic incidents that have marked their history.

The fan comparisons to Yoko Ono reflect concerns about outside influence on the band’s creative process. This latest collaboration at Les Paul Studios represents a new chapter for Perry and Etty Lau. Their partnership has become a focal point of speculation in the rock community, particularly given Jane’s Addiction’s legacy of both creative innovation and personal turmoil.
