Ozzy Osbourne Says He Was Surprised When Eric Clapton Accepted His Offer

Ozzy Osbourne recently gave an interview to Stereogum and talked about how Eric Clapton surprised him by accepting his collaboration offer.

Chad Smith, Ozzy Osbourne, and Travis Scott came together for Post Malone’s song ‘Take What You Want.’ After this collab, Osbourne began working on a new album titled ‘Ordinary Man’ and entered the studio with Chad Smith, Duff McKagan, and the producer Andrew Watt. On February 21, 2020, ‘Ordinary Man’ hit the record stores.

Following its release, the album received positive reviews from fans and critics. Ozzy Osbourne then wanted to make a follow-up album with Watt and entered the studio with the producer. On June 24 the Prince Of Darkness announced the title as ‘Patient Number 9’ and released the title track with a music video the same day.

Released on September 9, ‘Patient Number 9’ featured various influential names as guest artists, such as Chad Smith, Robert Trujillo, Duff McKagan, Tony Iommi, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton. Although they wanted Jimmy to also appear on the record, the Holy Trinity couldn’t get together.

In a recent interview with Stereogum, Ozzy Osbourne revealed his thoughts on collaborating with Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton on the album. Osbourne said he didn’t give it a chance when Watt suggested them. Stressing that it was a surprise, Ozzy said that Clapton and Beck are amazing guitarists who made fantastic efforts in the album. As the Prince of Darkness said, this also marked Tony Iommi’s first effort in an Ozzy album.

Here is what Ozzy Osbourne told Stereogum about his collaborations on ‘Patient Number 9’:

“Andrew suggested them, and I said, ‘I don’t think they’d want to f*cking play on an Ozzy Osbourne record!’ I was very surprised. Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck are two amazing guitar players, you know? But they agreed to play on the record, and what they did was fantastic. And Tony Iommi, this was the first time he played on an Ozzy record.”

In another interview, Ozzy Osbourne revealed his thoughts on Clapton’s guitar riffs on the song ‘One Of Those Days.’ He stated that Clapton tried to create a sound similar to what he had done with Cream. Moreover, according to Ozzy, he hasn’t heard Clapton sound so good for years.
