Former Sepultura members Max and Iggor Cavalera’s band, Cavalera, announced a last-minute cancellation of their Hellfest performance following a frightening bus accident.

The band shared an official statement explaining the circumstances behind the cancellation, expressing both relief and disappointment.

“Cavalera regretfully are unable to perform today at Hellfest due to an unforeseen accident yesterday,” the band said. “We are very grateful for the driver’s skills at preventing what could have been a deadly bus crash.”

The statement also addressed the band’s feelings toward missing the festival and their French fanbase.

“The band is devastated to not be able to bring Chaos AD to this great festival and to the French fans,” they continued. “We hope to be able to return with our Chaos in the future. X Max & Iggor.”

The cancellation came as a shock to festival-goers. The band’s message made clear that the safety of those involved took priority. No further details about the accident have been shared at this time.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported from the bus crash. The remaining dates of the European tour are currently expected to proceed as planned. The band’s next scheduled stop is Göteborg, Sweden, on June 23, 2026.

The Hellfest appearance was part of the band’s “Chaos A.D. MMXXVI” tour. The run is built entirely around performing Sepultura’s landmark 1993 album Chaos A.D. in full. The tour has given both longtime fans and newer generations the chance to experience the classic record performed live.

The Chaos A.D. album holds a pivotal place in heavy metal history. It is widely credited with pushing Sepultura toward a more groove-driven and politically charged sound. A dedicated European tour revisiting that material underscores the enduring legacy of the record and the continued demand for the Cavalera brothers’ work.

The Hellfest cancellation marks a rare disruption to an otherwise well-received European run. With the tour set to continue, fans in the remaining cities can expect the band to bring the full Chaos A.D. experience to the stage in the nights ahead.
