Parton discussed the health issues she had been quietly managing during the conversation. She drew comparisons to difficult periods she had faced earlier in her life.

“As I’ve shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl,” Parton said. “You know, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to manage something like this. Back in the early ’80s, I was down for several months with female issues, and I was struggling with my weight at the time too, so it’s not like I haven’t been through hard times with my health.”

She went on to reflect on how public scrutiny of personal struggles has changed in the age of social media. She also reaffirmed her determination to keep pursuing her goals.

“But I think because we live in a 24/7 world with social media, everything gets magnified in ways it wasn’t years ago,” Parton continued. “I used to joke that I was the Queen of the Tabloids, but now I guess I can say I’m the Queen of Social Media AI! Seriously, though, even though I’m still healin’, I’m still workin’! You know me — as I’ve often said — I’ve dreamed myself into a corner and I still have so many things I want to achieve, so I’m gonna keep on working as long as I can to see everything come to life.”

Parton also explained her decision to step back from touring. She left the door open for select performances in the future.

“I hate to cancel anything I’m committed to, but I just couldn’t do the shows at the level I would want them to be, and in the way that I know my fans would expect them to be,” she said. “I definitely plan to do special performances in the future, but I won’t tour anymore like I used to.”

The interview stands as one of Dolly Parton’s last public reflections on her health and career before her passing. The timeline of her final months adds weight to the words she shared.

Dolly Parton died on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer. Her death came just over a year after she lost her husband of nearly six decades, Carl Dean, who passed away in March 2025 at age 82 following struggles with Alzheimer’s disease and heart problems.

The proximity of the two losses casts new light on Parton’s own words about setting her health aside while caring for Carl. Her final interview makes clear that the toll of that period stayed with her long after his passing, even as she continued to push forward with her career.

Parton’s publicist confirmed her passing in a statement that read, “Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones.”

Parton will be laid to rest beside Carl at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, the same site where he was buried after his death last year. The decision reflects the nearly 60-year bond the couple shared, one that Parton often described as one of the great loves of her life.

Taken together, Parton’s final interview and the details surrounding her death paint a fuller picture of a woman who remained devoted to her work and her husband’s memory until the very end.
