Nikki Sixx Doesn’t Blame Mick Mars For The Lawsuit Against Mötley Crüe

In a recent interview with Planet Rock, Nikki Sixx took the opportunity to discuss Mötley Crüe‘s current situation and their former bandmate Mick Mars. During the conversation, he touched on the guitarist’s departure, the lawsuit, and the band’s ongoing progress.

Mars initially stopped touring with Mötley Crüe, citing health issues as the reason and stating that he would still participate in the band’s creative process. However, he later filed a lawsuit against the band, confirming speculations about conflicts between him and the other members. Adding to the drama, the band started working on new projects, including a studio record and a European tour with Def Leppard without the guitarist, which Sixx addressed in his interview.

First, regarding the guitarist change, he explained that it was normal for the sound of the songs to evolve when played with a new musician. He emphasized that it was not about playing better or worse but about playing differently.

The bassist also discussed Mötley Crüe’s current state, asserting that the band is having a good time and they are proud of its history. He mentioned that the members were supportive of Mars through good and bad times but are also content with their current situation without him.

Nikki Sixx explained his stance by saying:

“It’s nothing against any other musician that you play with, just that when you play with new musicians, you play differently. We’re still playing the same songs that people want to hear, but it kind of reinspires you. And I’m sure the same thing would happen if they got a new bass player. They’re like, ‘Oh wow, he’s attacking it differently.’ So it’s never about how bad anybody was.

It’s a nice time [for Mötley Crüe], and it’s kind of inspired us to write a little bit. We love our history; we’re very proud of everything we’ve done. We’ve always been really supportive of Mick, no matter what Mick was going through. We’re just happy with where we’re at right now.”

In the rest of his statements, Sixx elaborated on his thoughts regarding the lawsuit filed by the guitarist. He explained that when Mars’ health issues surfaced, they had to either disband or continue without him. Not wanting to end their long musical journey so abruptly, the band chose to proceed.

Moreover, he went on to say that they understood his health issues and wished him the best despite the recent clashes. On the other hand, he expressed his belief that the musician was being misled by his representatives, but the band could not let this affect their concentration.

The bassist’s words went as follows:

“If a member of a band tells you that they can’t tour because of health reasons, you have two choices. You can quit as a band [after] 42 years of work. Or we could look at each other and go, ‘Are we done yet?!’ We’re really peaking, and we understand [Mick’s] health issues.

We wish him the best, and we know that he’s a little bit confused and being misled by representatives right now. But we still have to stay focused on why we’re here.”

Sixx’s interview underscored his understanding of Mick Mars while also emphasizing the importance of moving forward and focusing on the present as a band. Mötley Crüe continues to create music and prepare for their European tour with Def Leppard, and as Nikki stressed, they are determined to keep going. So, let’s see what the future holds for the band and their now-former guitarist, Mick Mars.
