Megadeth announced a last-minute cancellation of their Lisbon performance, sparking backlash from fans. The band was forced to cancel their set minutes after their scheduled stage time on Saturday. They cited technical issues beyond their control — a reason many fans refused to accept, with some booing and throwing cups at the stage.
The band addressed the situation directly in an official statement, expressing regret over the cancellation.
“Due to technical issues beyond our control, we are saddened and frustrated to share with you that we will not be able to perform tonight in Lisbon,” Megadeth announced. “We never want to let you down…and we are just as disappointed as you are with this situation. We look forward to returning to give you the show you deserve.”
Despite the apology, fans who had traveled long distances voiced their frustration. One fan, who had made the journey from Galicia, wrote: “We came from Galicia, spending money on fuel, time, and driving all those kilometres, only for it to be cancelled? I hope you at least make the effort to give us our money back.”
Another attendee echoed the sentiment: “We bought two tickets to this disappointing festival only because of Megadeth… and the show never happened. We’re really disappointed. Fans traveled from different countries and spent hundreds of euros on flights, hotels, and festival tickets just to see Megadeth.”
The cancellation took place at the Evil Live Festival in Lisbon on July 5, 2026. Megadeth were scheduled as one of the headline acts. The abrupt exit left thousands of attendees without the performance they had paid to see, and the fallout quickly spread across social media.
While the band and festival organizers both pointed to technical problems, a backstage conflict has emerged as the more likely cause. A dispute reportedly broke out between Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine and a technician from Marilyn Manson’s crew. The technician had previously worked for Megadeth, and the situation escalated to the point where the band ultimately chose not to perform. Neither Megadeth nor the Evil Live Festival organization has addressed the conflict directly. Both sides continue to cite only technical issues.
Marilyn Manson did take the stage and completed their set. Fans in attendance noted that while the sound quality at the venue was poor, Manson’s performance went ahead without incident. This detail further fueled skepticism over Megadeth’s stated reason for pulling out.
The Lisbon show was part of Megadeth’s ongoing European festival run. The band is set to return to the United States later this month for a series of headlining dates before joining Iron Maiden’s Run for Your Lives World Tour in August. No announcement regarding refunds or a rescheduled Lisbon date has been made at this time.
