One thing we know for sure about Tool’s Maynard James Keenan is his huge admiration for KISS. The frontman recently took to his official Instagram account and added another layer to his dedication to KISS by disclosing that they were his ‘coping mechanism,’ helping him through difficult times.
Sharing a video including his KISS posters, footage from the band’s live shows, and a childhood photo of himself painted in Ace Frehley’s stage make-up, Keenan wrote:
“Everyone has their coping mechanisms. As a child growing up in ’70s Ohio, mine was KISS. I had all the posters, but at some point, I thought I’d lost them. Recently found them all rolled up in a chest I’d forgotten about in the attic. It included the holy grail of KISS posters. The First. ‘New On Casablanca Records and Tapes.’ The back has all four autographs.”
Last week, the singer got the chance to share the same stage with KISS at the Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival. Referring to that, he continued:
“All this rediscovered joy was punctuated this weekend when I was able to play not once, but twice, on the same festival as KISS with Puscifer and Tool. And in Ohio, no less. Full circle. ‘100,000 Years’ by KISS edit. Btw, Puscifer is touring now through early July. Life is short. Regret sucks. Come see us while you still can.”
Under Keenan’s post, Sammy Hagar made a humorous comment, writing:
“OK, Maynard, you are busted. Guilty as charged. Now, we all know where you came from and where you’re coming from, but hopefully not where you’re going. Of course, you’re my favorite, so don’t make me bust out. All my Tool, Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, etc. stuff, and post it.”
The Puscifer vocalist replied in the same tone:
“Calm down, Red Rocker.”
Maynard James Keenan has been currently touring the United States with Puscifer. On June 8, the band will head towards the United Kingdom and other European countries, including France, Denmark, Germany, and Spain, for more dates. You can watch the video he shared on his Instagram here.
