The 65th annual Grammy Awards has recently been held, and the winners have been crowned. While some artists were thrilled to take home a trophy, Machine Gun Kelly was not among them. Despite being nominated for Best Rock Album with his March 2022 release, ‘Mainstream Sellout,’ MGK lost to Ozzy Osbourne. But judging by what he said on his social media story after the ceremony, that won’t stop him.
MGK’s recent years have seen a shift toward a pop-punk sound, and ‘Mainstream Sellout’ was no exception. He aimed to capture a darker, guitar-heavy sound and received critical acclaim for his efforts. However, not everyone was a fan, with some finding the album dull compared to his previous releases. Regardless, the overall success of ‘Mainstream Sellout’ earned him a Grammy nomination.
Yet, MGK failed to take home an award in his first nomination with his sixth album. In a story he shared on his social media, he revealed that even though he lost this award, it taught him a lesson. In the video where he addressed his fans, the musician said that his biggest fear was disappointing them and his team. He also shared that even though he lost it, he would do his best and try for the better.
Machine Gun Kelly’s words to his fans read:
“Just want to send a little message from my heart to you guys out there. I learned a beautiful lesson in self-worth and gratitude today. One that I don’t think I could have learned in any other way than the way that it happened. And my only fear was letting you guys down and letting my city down or letting my team down.
But when I think about it, for six albums, you guys have been rocking with me. For six albums, we haven’t been nominated until just now. So even if it takes six more for the win, or if we never take it, what a f*cking ride. I love you all. Love yourself. It’s a beautiful night.”
The competition in the Best Rock Album category was tough, with artists such as Spoon, Idles, The Black Keys, and Ozzy Osbourne also nominated. Ultimately, it was Osbourne’s ‘Patient Number 9’ that earned the award. The Prince of Darkness also won the Best Metal Performance Grammy for ‘Rules of Degradation.’
