D.J. Ashba addressed the future of Sixx:A.M. in a recent interview with SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk.

The interview covered his recent communication with bandmates. Ashba also discussed the unique nature of their collaboration while addressing speculation about the band’s status.

“I talked to Nikki Sixx, like, two weeks ago. We talked for quite a while just to catch up. We’re still all great friends,” Ashba said. “Me and James talk, but James (Michael) lives in Ireland now. He’s pretty much just at a point in his life where he’s kind of… I mean, I read it on the Internet like you guys do. He’s putting out videos where he’s retired. And I have nothing but mad respect for James and Nikki. There has been talk, ‘Hey, let’s get together and create new shit.'”

Ashba explained their perspective on the project’s unconventional nature.

“Sixx:A.M.’s been weird. It’s a labor of love. We’ve never looked at it like a band,” he continued. “I know the world and the label, when ‘Life Is Beautiful’ hit, they’re, like, ‘You guys are now a band,’ and we’re, like, ‘No. We’re just three producers, three best friends that love to create songs together.'”

Ashba revealed some behind-the-scenes details about their technical setup.

“So we’ve never truly looked at Sixx:A.M. like a band. We still, to this day, don’t have a drummer. Every time we tour, we have to get a drummer. But it’s one of those weird, weird projects that the radio loves us. Every time we release a song, it seems to get a lot of love there. The fans have been incredibly supportive.”

Ashba remained open about future possibilities but specified his conditions.

“And listen, I’m open to doing… That would be the only way I would come back and do a band thing would be if Nikki and James wanted to do another tour. I’d absolutely be down for that,” he stated. “But outside of that, I have no interest of joining a new band or doing anything band-wise. But that would be the one exception, for sure.”

Ashba concluded with a hopeful note about potential future collaborations.

“But I would say, I don’t know, honestly. I think we’re all pretty open to the possibility of us doing something else in the future. We’ve never really closed the book on it. I’m down. I know Sixx is busy doing his thing, and James is doing whatever he’s doing. So I think if the timing was right, I think we’d all be probably down to do something in the future.”

These comments mark a significant point in Sixx:A.M.’s timeline. The band has achieved numerous milestones throughout their career.

Records from Last.fm show the band’s formation in Los Angeles during 2007. Nikki Sixx, D.J. Ashba, and James Michael joined forces that year. Their debut album, “The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack,” established their reputation for raw and emotional themes.

The band reached a turning point in 2015. Documentation from Last.fm revealed Ashba’s departure from Guns N’ Roses. He chose to focus exclusively on Sixx:A.M. This decision led to one of their most productive periods.

The band demonstrated their creative commitment in 2016. They released two full studio albums that year. “Prayers for the Damned” arrived on April 29. “Prayers for the Blessed, Vol. 2” followed on November 18. Reports from Soundsphere Magazine noted these releases as their last major works before James Michael began discussing retirement in 2021.

The group marked their tenth anniversary in October 2017. They released a special edition of their debut album. The release included reimagined versions of fan favorites like “Life Is Beautiful.” This project became their last major release before their current period of uncertainty.
