In a recent appearance on the Everblack Podcast, Brian Welch shared why he’s thankful for Jonathan Davis.

“You throw that freaky, unique, strange, amazing voice and character into what we’re doing, and he makes it Korn,” the guitarist praised his bandmate. “He helps make Korn unique.”

He added, “We all make Korn, obviously, our instruments, the Korn sound, and all that. But having him, he never rapped once. He does a scat thing. He likes to do things that no one’s doing.”

“I was talking to Munky the other day, and there was just something special about him [Davis] and how he got so vulnerable and open to share his emotions, like on that first album and stuff, you could feel his soul. And I don’t know who was doing that before him to that level,” Welch explained.

The musician then gave some names who expressed their emotions through music, saying, “People obviously opened the door, like Layne and maybe Trent Reznor, I don’t know. But to do it in a way that was just so emotional, and that was before bands like Linkin Park. I’m grateful for Jonathan Davis.”

Davis also honored his Korn bandmates on Instagram in October. He shared their debut album cover and wrote, “I can’t believe you’re 30 years old. I’m so proud of this record. It changed so many things in my life. I remember my 24-year-old self so nervous that I had opened my heart for the world to feel the pain I was going through at that time.”

The singer continued, “It’s so incredible. It helped so many with there journey through the darkness we all know so well. Ross Robinson, thank you for capturing every emotional breath I took the sound of my teeth grinding from the tension in my body.”

“My brothers, James Shaffer, Brian Welch, Reginald Arvizu, David Silveria, you guys gave me the most incredible music to do what I do. You guys made me feel safe and I’m forever grateful,” Davis also noted.

Welch also recently revealed that they’ve been working on the new Korn album for a while but he doesn’t think they will release it soon.
