John Lennon impacted the music scene as a member of The Beatles and a solo musician. After being impressed by the skiffle genre, Lennon wanted to create his sound in music. When he initially gained recognition with the band, his influence on the other musicians started to show. The Beatles became a turning point in his life, and he continued his solo experiments, especially with his wife, Yoko Ono.

The Beatles icon, who made rock records for most of his career, was also interested in disco, pop, and experimental genres. Disco, which emerged in the ’70s as a dance and subculture genre, influenced John Lennon and Yoko Ono. They began to work on songs that reflected pop sounds. The pair’s 1981 disco song ‘Walking on Thin Ice,’ credited to Ono, was one of them, and Lennon had a prediction about this track.

Disco music gained recognition from the ’70s to almost ’90s in the music scene. The songs of names like ABBA and Boney M. became very popular among young people. Especially the youths were enjoying disco songs in the dance clubs. John Lennon and Yoko Ono created ‘Walking on Thin Ice,’ influenced by this genre in the early ’80s. The pair completed the track’s recording session just before Lennon’s death on December 8, 1980.

The song, which Yoko Ono vocalized, received many positive reviews during that period. After spending many weeks on the US dance chart, it reached number one, beating Madonna and Justin Timberlake. As Ono revealed in a past interview, Lennon predicted that the track would be a hit before its release. Though she thought Lennon said it without much thought, it became Ono’s first hit, as he predicted.

When the interviewer mentioned Lennon predicted the song would be number one, Yoko Ono said:

“I know. I mean, he just said it without thinking, probably, but it came true. He said it would be my first number 1. It’s so funny.”
