Former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg is now practicing with the Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo for their upcoming Infectious Grooves shows.
Earlier, Weinberg was chosen as the temporary drummer of the superband for their upcoming shows in March. More recently, in Weinberg’s post on Instagram, he revealed practicing for the first time with the Metallica bassist and the rest of the members. The drummer wrote under his post:
“An absolutely sick first practice with my musical heroes as we get ready for these upcoming shows. Can’t wait to see you all in March.”
This somehow led to a series of comments where fans started suggesting that Weinberg should be Metallica’s new drummer or that the band should collaborate with the drummer. One comment read:
“Kick Lars out and move Jay in.”
Another read:
“At least for an album. Metallica at this stage should be more open to collabs and featuring such and such.”
Weinberg’s Return To Stages

Weinberg is taking on the drumming duties for Infectious Grooves at the Byron Bay Bluesfest in Australia on April 1. The performance holds significance as it marks his first major appearance since parting ways with Slipknot in November.
The Byron Bay Bluesfest, occurring over the Easter weekend, will feature Infectious Grooves’ lineup on April 1, with Mike Muir of Suicidal Tendencies on vocals, Robert Trujillo from Metallica on bass, and guitarists Dean Pleasants and Dave Kushner from Velvet Revolver.
In addition to the news of Weinberg’s addition to the lineup, another post highlighted the return of Dave Kushner, who was an unofficial member of Infectious Grooves in their early days, for this festival performance.
