Former Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Hickey recently revealed exciting news for fans of the legendary gothic metal band in an interview with Loaded Radio.
Hickey confirmed that the band is currently working on a new live album. The album is now in the final stages of production.
“We’re actually working on a live album right now,” Hickey said. “Yeah, we’re in the mixing process… So I’m excited about that.”
The guitarist also shared that the project is progressing well. Visual elements are now being developed.
“[We’re] working on the artwork now,” he continued.
This marks a significant moment for Type O Negative fans. The band continues to honor their legacy with new releases.
The upcoming live album holds special significance as it will be a posthumous release featuring the voice of the late Peter Steele, Lambgoat reported. The project represents an opportunity for fans to experience performances by the band’s iconic frontman and bassist, who passed away in 2010.
Type O Negative, formed in 1989, became known for its unique blend of gothic metal, doom metal, and hard rock. The band’s core members included Peter Steele on lead vocals and bass, Kenny Hickey on guitar, Josh Silver on keyboards, and Johnny Kelly on drums. They gained a dedicated fan base with albums like “Bloody Kisses” and “October Rust.” They are remembered for their dark, often humorous, and introspective lyrics.
Peter Steele’s passing in 2010 left a lasting legacy in the music world. His distinctive vocals and bass playing style continue to be celebrated by fans worldwide. The challenge of replicating his unique style has been a major discussion point in any potential tribute or live performances.
Beyond the live album, Sonic Perspectives noted that Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly have expressed interest in a tribute concert to Peter Steele. However, they highlight the difficulty in finding someone who can replicate Steele’s bass playing. They believe this is a greater challenge than replacing his vocals. These developments reflect the enduring impact of Type O Negative and Peter Steele on the music scene, with ongoing projects aimed at honoring their legacy.
