The announcement outlined the full details of the upcoming tribute concert, including the formation of the supergroup and the broader evening’s programming.

“THE OFFICIAL RAMONES 50TH ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTE: On August 30th, Ramones Productions and Hollywood Forever invite you to Hollywood Forever Cemetery in LA for a special concert and double feature screening, presented by John Travolta in support of Dr. David Agus’ cancer research at Ellison Medical Institute,” the announcement read.

The statement went on to introduce the newly formed group, named Cretin Family, and detail the rest of the night’s events.

“For the first time, Tim Armstrong, Billie Joe Armstrong, Travis Barker, and CJ Ramone will join forces as Cretin Family to perform Ramones songs together. The night also features a screening of the 50th Anniversary Edition of ‘Carrie’ alongside Travolta’s ‘Propeller One-Way Night Coach,’ plus a DJ set by Shepard Fairey and surprise guests.”

The event is set to take place on August 30th at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles. It marks a landmark celebration of the Ramones’ five decades of influence on punk rock.

The Ramones were founded in 1974 in Forest Hills, Queens, New York. They are widely credited as the first band of the punk rock movement. Their stripped-down, high-energy sound established a template for the genre that shaped the direction of rock music for decades to come.

CJ Ramone joined the original band in 1989 as the replacement bassist for Dee Dee Ramone. He served in that role until the group disbanded in 1996. His continued involvement in Ramones-related projects has kept him at the center of the band’s ongoing legacy.

Billie Joe Armstrong has long acknowledged the Ramones as a foundational influence on Green Day’s sound and career. His participation in the Cretin Family supergroup reflects a cross-generational bond between punk’s originators and the artists they inspired.

Travis Barker, the Blink-182 drummer widely regarded as one of the most influential drummers in punk and rock, brings additional weight to the lineup. His involvement signals the broad reach of the Ramones’ influence across multiple waves of punk and alternative music.

Tim Armstrong, frontman of Rancid and co-founder of Hellcat Records, rounds out the group. Rancid has been one of the most prominent torchbearers of the Ramones’ raw punk ethos since the early 1990s. His inclusion is a natural fit for a tribute of this scale.
