Def Leppard Sell Stakes In Publishing Catalog
It was recently reported that Def Leppard reached an agreement with the independent and private music publisher company, Primary Wave Music, regarding selling a stake in their publishing catalog and master royalty income stream.
Actually, it wasn’t the first partnership between Def Leppard members and Primary Wave Music as they had partnered with each other for managing the band’s catalog of songs, including their hits such as ‘Love Bites,’ ‘Rock of Ages,’ ‘Armageddon It,’ and ‘C’mon C’mon’ in 2009. Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott and Phil Collen shared their feelings and thoughts about their strategic partnership with the company by stating that they were thrilled and excited about it.
Therefore there’s no doubt that both sides are still content with their collaboration as it was recently revealed that Primary Wave Music bought a stake from Def Leppard’s music catalog. Previously, the company had acquired Prince, Bing Crosby, Luther Vandross, and Chris Isaak’s rights to their works. However, neither Primary Wave Music nor Def Leppard members haven’t unveiled how much money was paid as a part of purchasing the stake.
According to recent news and Partner & Chief Digital Strategy Officer for Primary Wave Music, Rob Dippold, and Chief Operating Officer at Primary Wave Music, Ramon Villa’s statements, they are happy about partnering with the iconic band once again and hoping to continue like that. They drew attention to Def Leppard becoming a member of the family after their profitable deal with them, and it seems like the company will be after more bands and musicians considering their recent purchases.
Here’s what Rob Dippold said:
“With Def Leppard celebrating 45 years as a band this year, we at Primary Wave are beyond excited on further partnering with them in a more meaningful way. We are thrilled to continue building and elevating not only the band’s musical body of work but their impact on pop culture and the industry in general.
It has been an absolute pleasure over the last decade working with the band, management, and their entire team. We look forward to a collaborative, fun, and fruitful relationship as the band continues to push new boundaries not only musically but also in their live performance.”
Ramon Villa added:
“When we partner with artists, we look at it as they are joining our family. Def Leppard is an icon in music history as they continue to entertain people worldwide. We are always excited and humbled when an iconic artist entrusts us to help further expand the reach of their creative body of work. In this case of Def Leppard, is it even more gratifying to see them happy in the family and wanting to expand the partnership?
Welcome again, Def Leppard, and thank you!”
Surprisingly, Def Leppard members decided to sell an additional stake in their publishing catalog, unlike various artists and bands such as David Crosby, Bruce Springsteen, Nancy Wilson, Mötley Crüe, and ZZ Top, who sold their entire music catalog for millions of dollars.
