Måneskin frontman Damiano David addressed criticism about his solo music direction in a recent interview with Mythical Kitchen.
David firmly defended his artistic choices when questioned about departing from Måneskin’s aggressive, guitar-driven sound.
‘I don’t feel any obligation towards anybody with my music,’ David stated. ‘I feel like a huge respect for what I did with the band and what the band identity was. So if somebody is like, “I was a fan of the band and I don’t like what you’re doing now,” I totally see where it comes from and I don’t take it personally. If someone thinks that I should do something, that’s exactly the moment I don’t do it. It’s also like a pride thing. I’m five, I was like, “Don’t tell me what to do.”‘
David emphasized the importance of maintaining distinct musical identities in his solo work.
‘If I had made a record that sounded even kind of like Måneskin, I would feel like I’m stealing from my own craft and from my friends,’ he continued. ‘It wouldn’t feel very good. I think it’s necessary that the two projects sound very good because they both need the same care and novelty. They shouldn’t fight with each other in any way.’
David’s comments coincide with his preparation for an ambitious new career chapter. This marks a significant departure from his work with Måneskin.
Reports from Readdork revealed the singer’s debut solo album ‘Funny Little Fears’ will release on May 16, 2025, through Sony Music Italy and Arista. The 14-track collection will showcase David’s artistic evolution. It features singles including ‘Born With A Broken Heart,’ ‘Silverlines,’ and ‘Next Summer.’
Architeg Prints noted the upcoming album’s departure from Måneskin’s signature rock sound. Tracks like ‘Next Summer’ explore more reflective themes of youth, love, and personal growth.
Fan response to David’s solo project has been overwhelmingly positive. Melodic Magazine reported his planned world tour will span five continents. This demonstrates the global anticipation for his new musical direction.
Måneskin’s activities remain paused during this period. David’s approach shows his commitment to keeping his band work and solo career distinctly separate.
