Bruce Hall recently addressed the possibility of an REO Speedwagon reunion. He shared details about ongoing discussions with the band in an interview featured on Harmless Dave.

When asked directly about the potential for REO Speedwagon to make a comeback, Hall explained that the three remaining members—himself, Neil Doughty, and Alan Gratzer—have already approached Kevin Cronin about reuniting.

“Well, there’s always a possibility of something there,” Hall said. “We did recently get together, the four of us, Neil and Alan and myself and Kevin, and did this thing in Champagne, Illinois with the marching for the halftime show. And it was fun. We had a ball.”

Hall emphasized that the three members are eager to move forward with a reunion. However, the decision ultimately rests with Cronin. “I know that Alan and Neil and myself would like to try and get something going with Kevin, but it’s up to him,” he stated. “We haven’t really made any decisions on it as of yet. But it’s something that we would three of us out of four I know are willing and would like to see happen.”

The three members have made their intentions clear to Cronin. “Kevin knows that that’s something that we’ve talked about, the three of us, Neil and Alan and myself. We’ve definitely talked about it and it’s up to Kevin if he wants to,” Hall explained. “We haven’t heard anything recently from him as far as him wanting to maybe give it a shot, but I think the fans would love it and I think they deserve it because I don’t like the way this has happened.”

Hall concluded by expressing his desire for a more positive conclusion to the band’s story. “We need to make it so it’s a better ending for them and for us too,” he said.

Hall’s comments come at a significant moment in REO Speedwagon’s history. The band’s recent gathering in Illinois was not merely a casual reunion. Rather, it represented a historic moment for the classic rock legends. Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Kevin Cronin and Bruce Hall reunited with REO Speedwagon’s classic lineup for a special one-time performance in September 2025 at the University of Illinois Homecoming event. This marked their first musical gathering as a group since 1988. The reunion included Cronin, Hall, founding keyboardist Neal Doughty, and drummer Alan Gratzer performing three of their hits with the university marching band during halftime on September 27, 2025.

The significance of this reunion cannot be overstated. It represented the first time the four original members played together in nearly four decades. Rock and Roll Garage noted that the performance was both nostalgic and emotionally significant for all involved. The event also had them serving as grand marshals for the Illinois Homecoming Parade on September 26, 2025, further cementing the importance of the occasion.

The reunion occurred despite previous tensions between the members. Louder Sound revealed that prior to the reunion, Cronin had been touring as the Kevin Cronin Band without using the REO Speedwagon name. He acknowledged the challenge of carrying on without the group’s brand. The official retirement of the REO Speedwagon name as a touring act at the start of 2025 had marked a difficult period for fans hoping to see the legendary band perform together again.

Despite the successful September reunion, uncertainty remains about the band’s future. Ultimate Classic Rock found that all involved expressed uncertainty about future plans. Cronin stated the reunion sent a message about overcoming challenges for their fans but did not confirm if REO Speedwagon would continue as a working band beyond the reunion. This leaves Hall’s current push for a permanent reunion in a delicate position, as the ball remains firmly in Cronin’s court.
