In a recent discussion with NME, Billie Joe Armstrong opened up about Green Day’s influence on Courtney Love’s potential return to the music scene.
During the BRIT Awards 2024, Green Day members Armstrong and Tré Cool shared insights into their enduring friendship with Courtney. Their connection was spotlighted when Armstrong invited Love to perform with him at two London shows, stirring the audience with renditions of classics like David Bowie’s ‘Suffragette City’ and Hole’s own ‘Celebrity Skin.’
A Dynamic Duo Reunites On Stage

Armstrong recalled the energetic performances and Love’s vibrant participation, saying:
“I was texting with her, and I said, ‘Come on out, sing a song,’ and she did. It was great. She did [David Bowie’s] ‘Suffragette City,’ she did [Cheap Trick’s] ‘Surrender,’ and we got to do ‘Celebrity Skin’ – a Hole song – and the whole room freaked out. We’ve known her since ’94, she’s always great! She’s a wild woman, she has a lot of great stories, and I love Courtney… She’s definitely like a rock n’ roll-er in herself. She’s got her sea legs back, so we’ll maybe be hearing more from her.”
Hinting At A Hole Reunion

After a considerable hiatus, Love reemerged, joining Armstrong on stage for The Coverups’ London gigs. The band, known for its impromptu performances, delighted fans with covers of famous rock and punk songs. Love’s appearance also fueled speculations of a Hole comeback.
Addressing the audience, Love playfully acknowledged her time away from the limelight before teasing the idea of Hole’s return, stating:
“Later… I’ll be back in Hole.”
In October 2023, Love ended her social media silence by sharing a series of TikTok videos. Through these posts, she offered glimpses into her life and teased new music despite her indifference towards maintaining an online presence.
