Avenged Sevenfold’s frontman, M. Shadows, has recently expressed his disinterest in Twitter, joining a growing list of artists who are stepping away from the social media platform.

In a series of tweets, the singer explained his decision to largely abandon Twitter, saying:

“Twitter – I’m saying goodbye (kinda). I was gonna write out something to explain why I don’t find this platform useful anymore, but the reality is even that is a waste of time, and who really cares?”

Reflecting On His Time On Twitter

Despite his decision to step back, Shadows acknowledged the benefits he gained from using the platform, writing:

“In 2021, I was invited to do a ‘Twitter Space’ about NFT’s, which resulted in me having to sign up for my first social media experience. Reluctantly, I stayed on. Here, I created relationships with many people I never would have met. So for that, I’m grateful.”

He also noted the platform’s role in promoting Avenged Sevenfold’s projects:

“It was great for launching Deathbats Club and all of our other endeavors around Avenged Sevenfold. I’m neither bummed nor mad about this app in general… It just simply doesn’t interest me at this point.”

Focus On Other Interests

The rocker plans to continue sharing about his passions but with limited reach on the platform, as he continued:

“I will continue to post about nerdy things that actually make me excited to get out of bed. It will not get much reach because this is how the app works. These things include the bleeding edge of technology, VR, blockchain, music communities, and an occasional song.”

In his last post, Shadows also mentioned he’d be active in Discord, stating:

“I’ll be in and out of Discord hangin’ with people there when I can. Just know every day we are building new ways that are meaningful to connect. This just isn’t one of them.”

Wider Trend Of Artists Leaving Twitter

This announcement from the frontman comes as part of a larger trend of musicians stepping away from Twitter. In November 2023, Gene Simmons announced his decision to quit Twitter, directing his followers to Instagram, TikTok, and Threads instead.

Similarly, guitarist Steve Stevens also declared his departure from the platform, with plans to be active on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. The Offspring’s Noodles cited his reasons for leaving as frustration with Elon Musk’s management and the rise of bigotry. Mike Portnoy and Trent Reznor have also left Twitter, with Portnoy citing concerns over the platform’s new verification policies.
