Shannon Tweed-Simmons, wife of KISS icon Gene Simmons, opened up about a series of serious health issues she has faced over the past six months. She shared the details in a candid post on Instagram. Despite appearing happy and upbeat on social media, Tweed-Simmons revealed she has been dealing with falls, surgeries and infections behind the scenes.
The post detailed a chain of medical events. It started with a fall that led to stitches, followed by a double hip replacement, a hip dislocation, and a serious infection.
“I look happy but listen to the last six months of my life. I was feeling wobbly and I fell on a step, but I took a knee so I wouldn’t fall down the stairs. I had to get stitches in that leg. I drove myself to the clinic and got stitches,” Tweed-Simmons said.
She went on to explain how ongoing hip pain led to a major surgery, which came with its own complications.
“Then I realized I am falling and wobbling because the arthritis in my hips is getting to be unbearable, so I had a double Hip Replacement. I had both hips done at once wasn’t no a large large deal but it was you know a big surgery, and I was up and walking in no time until my right hip popped out. I can’t stop laughing right now, but I went in. They put me out and popped it back in. And then a week later it popped out again. I just bent over to pick something up and poop!” she continued.
Tweed-Simmons then described how the hip issue was eventually resolved, only for a new health scare to emerge involving a kidney stone and a serious infection.
“Anyway I have a new kind on that side and it’s better now. I’m walking great no pain. Then I had a UTI (that I didn’t know I had) because a kidney stone was breaking up inside me and causing infection so… I got sepsis. Not good.! today I went to my eye doctor and next week I will have cataract surgery! Soon I will be 70! Ha… everything’s great we’ll just fix everything. I wonder how long I’ll last at this rate.?!! anybody else love aging as much as I do?” she added.
Tweed-Simmons, who will soon celebrate her 70th birthday, is scheduled to undergo cataract surgery in the coming week. Further updates on her recovery may follow.
