The Police guitarist Andy Summers recently revealed on WGN News that he constantly gets requests from Stewart Copeland and Sting for a band reunion. However, when asked if he foresees a reunion even if it’s in the distant future, Summers replied:
“It would be shocking to me. I don’t think so. There’s calls I get every day from Stewart [Copeland] and Sting and I say, ‘No, no, no don’t call me.'”
The interviewer further asked whether it was because Andy already knows what to expect and doesn’t want to be involved in a Police reunion, the guitarist said:
“No, not that at all. If you really wanted to organize that it would cost many millions of dollars to put that together, sure. You know it was one of the greatest bands of all time with more hits than anybody else ever.”
Although Summers shared that he is aware that The Police was one of the greats, he’s not crossing his finger for a comeback. He added:
“There’s a lot of joy in it but I don’t think it’s ever going to come back together. I don’t sit around wishing it at all.”
Andy isn’t the only one who has strong feelings about the band as Stewart also recently shared with Goldmine why Sting wasn’t a part of the ‘Police Deranged for Orchestra’ album. The drummer explained:
“I made the decision to use them [three female singers] due to practicality. I couldn’t put some guy up there pretending to be Sting. I would get killed, so I thought I would remedy that with three soul sisters.”
