“The ‘Misery Sermon’ album. I hate this,” he said. “I know we have a lot of fans that saying like, ‘This is your best album. Why you change your like style?’ But they hate this to be honest. I hate this song.”

The frontman elaborated on his reasoning. He pointed to technical aspects of the production.

“I don’t know. I hate it because of mixing. I really don’t know,” he continued. “For me, if we write something and like we’re going to play this song for one year already, I already hate it. I have this syndrome, you know, like I need to move forward every time. It’s never enough for me. It’s never good for me.”

Terrible’s comments reveal the creative restlessness that drives many artists to constantly evolve their sound, even when fans prefer earlier material.

The criticism of “Misery Sermon” comes from an artist who has built his reputation on pushing boundaries. He refuses to stay in one creative space. This tension between artistic growth and fan expectations has been a recurring theme throughout Slaughter to Prevail’s career.

The Metal Verse reported that Slaughter to Prevail formed in 2014 in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The band is primarily driven by Alex Terrible and British guitarist Jack Simmons working across countries and languages to create their heavy music. This international collaboration has been central to their sound since the beginning.

The band’s journey began with their debut EP “Chapters of Misery” in 2015, as documented by Wikipedia. “Misery Sermon” arrived in 2017 as the same album Terrible now criticizes for its mixing and style. Despite the frontman’s current dislike for the album, it marked an important period in the band’s development and gained significant fan support.

During the “Misery Sermon” era, Wikipedia noted that Jack Simmons began stepping back from touring. He focused mainly on studio work, leading to lineup shifts for live performances. This transition may have influenced the band’s evolving sound and contributed to Terrible’s creative frustrations with that particular period.

Distorted Sound Magazine confirmed that Slaughter to Prevail is signed to Sumerian Records. The band has built a reputation for intense vocal and instrumental performances. Alex Terrible is known for his signature low growls that helped the band gain international attention quickly. This reputation for intensity makes his candid criticism of his own work all the more striking.
